And then there was Hannibal…
Never an official captain, he earned the nickname when he had to briefly take command of his vessel after their real captain was killed. The battle was during the siege of a city under the reign of a local king, a weak and easily manipulated monarch dominated by a corrupt court. Intrigue and betrayal, duels and battles, love and hatred are the stage for the adventures of “Captain Deadweight”. He isn’t the most virtuous, nor the most devout, but he is a man of valour, wenching and booze. His name is Hannibal Deadweight!
Hannibal really, really hates goblins. He spent two months as a prisoner of goblins. He has never had a good experience with them other than when he’s sticking sharp objects in them. The only thing to closely rival his hatred for goblins is his indignation with those that stole his ship and dropped him overboard in a locked chest. How he escaped is another story.
One-eyed Furious Wang
Born from an egg on a mountain top… possibly? Well that’s one theory. The truth is no-one knows, perhaps not even Wang himself, but if he does know, he aint telling. Deadweight first met Wang in a tavern brawl in the tavern of the ill-named port ‘Harmony’s Prosper’ on the Isle of Frogs. Wang was a drunken, misogynistic leach that hefted an axe in each hand. Deadweight was impressed. Fleeing the city, Deadweight declared Wang his bosun and set out to find someone else’s fortunes.
First Mate Giljew ‘The Blade’
Deadweight had never really had much to do with ‘his folk’. Since his
earliest memories in the foundling home halflings had been a rare occurence, a fact of which he was regularly reminded. When Deadweight first met Giljew, during a short period of stay at a Bardoo Prison on the Cape of Lost Hope. The two halflings shared a sluice pit, where Deadweight discovered that Giljew had also been caught up in some confusion over property ownership. Deciding they were brothers in the sufference of injustice, the halflings took their leave of the Sultan of Bardoo’s hospitality, borrowing the Royal Sloop for their troubles. Though perhaps not as familiar with the sea as Deadweight, Giljew showed a natural aptitude for the more specialised skills Deadweight plied in his craft. Deadweight promptly declared Giljew his First Mate.
