December 28th 2008 is going to be my RPG day held here in Nishinomiya at my school – Bears.  I will be running a D&D 4th edition game for people to try, although if somebody else wants to run a different game too, we can certainly make time.  As a note, I have some dice, but if you BYO that would help immensly.

Apart from that there are two quick things to cover – Creating characters for the game; and how to get here!  First, here are some quick guidelines for the characters:

Present shopping!

It’s always hardest to shop for people who rarely leave your side for more than 30 minutes.  I have to plan a commando run all the way to Sannomiya, and even then she knows exactly why I’m going.  It’s easy to know what to get her though.  Her hints are about as subtle as tabasco.

I’ll post more when I make the run!

The end of Chapter 1, the start of Chapter 2.

We’ve finally reached the end of the first chapter of our 4th edition campaign.  The second chapter will be starting, and will have its own thread as soon as possible.  The first chapter was called “The muddy fields of Trouse,” while the second chapter is called “A warm welcome.”  I intend this chapter to be a bit shorter than the last.

I had hoped to start this chapter with a live session, but I realise that organizing one of those these days is about as easy as teaching a dog to fly.  Nonetheless, a Maptool session should be played as soon as possible.

In the meantime, here is a brief summary of events so far:

Space Hulk Playtest

On the weekend I finally had the chance to get my Maptool implementation of Space Hulk playtested.  Needless to say, there were lots of bugs, and I have a lot to do before I have a truly workable, intuitive game.

If you’re interested in trying it – here’s the campaign file:

It’s mission 2 from the 1st edition mission book.  All the rules and mission description (which you’ll need) can readily be downloaded at www.boardgamegeek.com or other sources.  In making this I had help with the blip deck macro from PyroMancer2k and the pictures themselves are mostly from an upload by somebody called jamz (both from the RPTools forums).

The dragon brothers

It was a chilly sunset.  The faint white tint of white frost obscured the otherwise green pasture surrounding Winterhaven.  It’s high stone walls could be seen for some distance on top of a strategic hilltop position.  Palah Timothy and Palah Douglas, ‘brothers’ of the Order of the redeeming Bahamut, walked towards the town letting their cloaks flow freely – daring the cold wind to chill them.  They were also probably the only dragonmen within 10 miles.

“How can we investigate this cult when we don’t even know what sort of cult it is?” Palah Douglas had little patience with their latest mission.  It seemed to be an almost paranoid mission – seek and destroy the ‘cult’ active in the Winterhaven area.

“Don’t worry Palah, there is no need to ask ‘how’ – just know that we will accomplish it,” Palah Timothy was generally a more devout follower of Bahamut.

“Wait,” said Palah Douglas, “wait.  I have an idea.”

“Inspiration strikes!  I told you it would.”

“Alright.  What if we – you and I -go to the bar, grab some drinks and,” Douglas paused a moment, “and ask some questions.”

“Were you suggesting something when you said ‘ask’ then?”

“Palah, why would you think that?”

“Well, it was in italics is all…”

“Have faith, have faith,” Douglas smiled.

Ok, I don’t want anybody to get the idea that I’m making this a weekly thing or that I’m going to be regular at all… but it wasn’t fair to mention Goemon and leave out Lady.  Here’s the exciting story of how she came into our lives.

Of course number two is going to be a girl (I’ve got a two in five chance of being right…)

The big news

It’s been a couple of days since I posted everything, so I thought I’d better put up a little news to show what’s been going on.

The biggest news is that Rika is now pregnant with our second baby!  As soon as she found out she was pregnant though, she decided that she had to get morning sickness. Boo.

Apart from that we have a D&D session this weekend Sunday afternoon from 2:30 onwards.  Or possibly at night…  I’ve gone from being in 3 play by post games to just one recently (the one I DM) so I’m thinking of running a concurrent campaign.  It would be quite different from the existing one though – basically we’d be playing through a heap of published material.  I really want to give the stuff a go and see what people think of it.

Also Goeventures turned out to be a hit, so I’ll try to put something together this weekend, no promises though.  He’s a mysterious, enigmatic character, so it’s hard to capture his personality the way I’d like…

Here’s a little comic I wrote about one of my dogs.  His name is Goemon, and secretly he is a pig, but we call him a dog.  You might have to click the image to get the full comic in a readable format.  This is the first, and probably only comic I’ll do for him, so I hope you like it!

A typical Aussie gaming group.

I’m Australian, so I have no idea how D&D is played in the US or other countries (except Japan of course). It occurred to me that the reverse is also true. There are people in the world who don’t know how the game is played in Australia! Well, to remedy that, let me give you a youtube!
